Summary of our visit: We happened to stumble across Colonias and on our first visit in 2021 we found out Colonias is not quite a ghost town yet, more a semi ghost town. While we were exploring we did see signs of people still residing there but as of today we are unsure of the population. As a matter of fact we have found minimal information about Colonias. Outside of the couple of residences and quite a few of abandoned unknown structures there is the San Jose Catholic Church which was said to have held mass until 1992. The church is currently under a major renovation. We assume like majority of the ghost towns here in New Mexico the railroads and interstates put this town out of commission. But this town looks to be full of fighters and the restoration of the church is living proof!
